Ann Parker and her husband Terry have lived in Barrington for the past thirty-two years. They have three married children and ten grand-children. She began painting some twelve years ago after retiring from a career of teaching English and French at the high school level. She has since studied art with Frankie Johnson her instructor and mentor at Main Street Art Center in Lake Zurich.
Ann's oil painting work is varied. Extensive world travel, still-life subjects, landscapes, and her grandchildren have been the inspiration for much of her work. She has taken both studio and plein air workshops in Illinois as well as at The Clearing in Door County, Wisconsin and the Scottsdale Artist’s School in Scottsdale, Arizona. These classes have provided further learning opportunities with a wide variety of nationally known artists.
Ann loves color and is inspired by the Impressionists. She uses a combination of brush- work and palette knife to create her oil paintings. Much of her work is found in private collections in Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan, and Arizona. She is a member of OPA (Oil Painters of America), The Barrington Cultural Arts Center and The Artist’s Association of Elk Grove Village.
Ann's artwork has been shown at Art in the Park in Citizen’s Park in Barrington and the former Milieu Design Studio in Barrington. Three of her pieces were recently “juried-in” to the Elk Grove Art Centre 2009 Exhibit and Sale. Of these, the painting entitled “Hollyhocks” received an “award of excellence.”
