| "'Woman hopes to revive an arts organization' By: TONY A. SOLANO, tsolano@pioneerlocal.com Barrington resident Susan Russo is looking for residents interested in creating an arts committee to provide a place for local artists to create and display art. Russo envisions a location in Barrington where artists can meet, mingle and work on their projects which would be funded by donations and operated by a volunteer committee. "Right now it's still very conceptual," she said. "I know it's going to take a lot of effort and ideas." The Barrington area has not had an organization with space dedicated to the arts since the Barrington Area Arts Council shut down in July 2007. Russo hopes the new committee will also eventually be able to provide classes, artist visits and a small gallery space. "The main thing will be for it to be a place for artists to create," she said. "The gallery will be a part of it, but a small part. "The space would include storage lockers and would be open to community members of all skill levels including writers, painters, jewelry makers, photographers, sculptors and artists who work with stained glass such as herself," Russo said. Residents interested in participating in the committee should contact Susan Russo by calling (847) 347-2931. |
